Museum4all – Museum2go

More than 200 people were engaged in a cross-border project titled “Museum4all – Museum2go”, implemented by the Homeland Museum of Knjaževac and National Institution Institute and Museum Bitola.

“Museum4all – Museum2go” is one of the three Balkan Museum Network’s awarded projects in 2016.

The project aimed to increase accessibility of collections of both museums by making their programs more open to the wider audience and outreaching to marginalized groups in Knjaževac and Bitola. Disabled people, kids in hospitals and other social institutions, as well and kids and youth in distant rural areas took part in different project activities.

The project engaged people of all ages from both countries, through different meetings, workshops and two regional conferences that also gathered heritage and access professionals from the region, active through the Balkan Museum Access Group.

Implementing the set of activities within this project, the quality of life of marginalized groups has been improved, as well as the quality of work of museums in Knjaževac and Bitola.

Future programs of both museums are enriched by developed materials of exhibition labels in Braille, tactile maps and images, and a movable suitcase with replicas of museum objects. The suitcase is inspired by traditional kasela or škrinja, used both in Serbian and Macedonian traditional cultures.

The project “Museum4all – Museum2go” is supported by the Stavros Niarchos Foundation and implemented through Cultural Heritage without Borders.
